    Surviving short haul

Some people love flying… and some people don’t. No matter where you classify yourself, flying is still something we all do in order to see different parts of the world. Shorter flights — an hour or so — can be a lot more convenient than taking a train or renting a car. And probably more comfortable.

Don’t fret about how to handle a short flight! Keep reading to see how you can make your next short flight a lot more enjoyable.

Pack lightly Of course, what you pack is dependent on where you’re heading for your trip. But, the lighter you back your bag, the less hassle it will be to store it on the flight. And that’s important when you’re trying to make a short flight as painless and hassle free as possible. For your shorter flight, there’s no need to make electronics and a ton of distractions readily available for you and your kids. Taking out less from your carry-on will only make your trip more enjoyable.

To read or to listen, that is the question. No one on any flight wants to sit and stare at the seat ahead of them. But it also may be extremely annoying to set up your tablet or laptop once you’re allowed to watch some downloaded shows only to have to put it all away again in less than hour. A short flight can also make reading a longer, more involved book difficult since you may not have enough time to end at the end of a chapter. For shorter flights, pick a light hearted podcast or an easy short novel or magazine that way you’re able to distract yourself for the flight but won’t be annoyed when you have to put it away.

Be careful what you drink You probably should avoid the airport bar regardless, but especially before a short flight. You most likely won’t feel the sleepiness from the alcohol until you land and you don’t want to have to keep getting up to use the restroom, plus, you might not be in the air long enough to use the restroom! Don’t front-load your flight by filling up on liquids, you’ll only regret it (and annoy your seat neighbor).

Bring a drink and snack Chances are, your shorter flight won’t have food and drink services since it wouldn’t make sense. But you’ve held off on drinking beforehand and just want something to light sip or snack on. It’s recommended that you store at the little store before heading on and grab a snack and water or soda so you won’t be disappointed if the inflight service doesn’t occur.

While short flights don’t give you enough time to really take a nap or settle into a book, you can certainly make the most of them with a pre-bought snack and a fun podcast. Happy travels!
